We, BLINKs waited patiently for the comeback of the quartet that we stan so hard since predebut, and after a year of waiting BLACKPINK finally made a comeback with a mini album called “SQUARE UP” with title track “DDU-DU DDU-DU” and side tracks “FOREVER YOUNG”, “SEE U LATER” and “REALLY”.  A total of 4 different genres that prove BLACKPINK’s versatility.

The mini album “SQUARE UP” rose to the number 1 spot on iTunes chart in 44 different countries’ iTunes charts few hours after its release and “DDU-DU DDU-DU” music video scored 36.2 million views in the first 24 hours which created a new record as the fastest Kpop girl group to do so.

According to Billboard, BLACKPINK had the best record among all girl groups in the world and placed 4th among all global artists. In China, BLACKPINK won 5 crowns on China’s QQ music, proving their massive popularity. BLACKPINK also topped Japan’s Oricon Digital Album chart. BLACKPINK made a history as the highest charting Kpop girl group on ‘Billboard Hot 100’ debuting at number 55. BLACKPINK also peaked at number 1 on Billboard’s ‘World Album Chart’ and debuted at number 1 on Billboard’s ‘Emerging Artist Chart’, becoming the first Kpop girl group act to top the list, just the second Kpop act overall to rank number 1 following NCT in May 2018. “DDU-DU DDU-DU” also has recorded a number 39 debut on the streaming songs tally via Nielsen Music. BLACKPINK is the first Kpop girl group to record a title on the chart.

Billboard also highlighted that BLACKPINK is one of the most influential group in the generation.

BALCKPINK is also set to perform at Kyocera Dome in Japan to conclude their Arena Tour, concert series in Japan organized just 23 months since their debut. With this, BLACKPINK will become the first foreign girl group in Japan to hold a concert in Kyocera Dome. Previously, BLACKPINK created a buzz by selling out 14,000 tickets for their Japan debut showcase with approximately 200,000 people applying for those tickets.

According to US Forbes, BLACKPINK sets a milestone worthy of attention because of their mega-hit song “DDU-DU DDU-DU” surpassed 10 million views in the first 6 hours since its release, 20 million views in 13 hours, 30 million views in 23 hours, 40 million views in 24 hours, 50 million views in 50 hours, and 60 million views in 82 hours, sweeping all pre-existing time records held by Kpop girl groups.

BLACKPINK becomes the 1st Kpop girl group to enter United Kingdom’s official single’s chart with their song “DDU-DU DDU-DU” at number 77, which is a very rare feat for a Kpop track.

BLACKPINK’s official YouTube channel becomes the first Kpop group channel to hit 10 million subscribers and their official group Instagram account, blackpinkofficial, becomes the most followed girl group not just in Kpop but around the world with 11 million followers and counting.

Recently, “DDU-DU DDU-DU” MV surpassed 250 million views, becoming the fastest Kpop group to do so in just 50 days.

With these overwhelming international milestones, YG Entertainment is receiving international love calls related to BLACKPINK as well! Who knows? We might get to see BLACKPINK perform or even do concerts around the world in the near future. With the BLACKPINK hype that is going on around the world, curiosity becomes even higher when YG said that the “jewel box” called “BLACKPINK” has not yet been fully opened!
