[NEWS] Gallup Korea: BLACKPINK Among The Favorite Singers of 2018 Voted By Koreans, DDU-DU DDU-DU As Most Favorite Song

Gallup Korea has recently revealed results for the artists, songs, and idols who were most loved this year.

Gallup Korea is a specialized research company which has been holding this survey annually since 2007. This year, 4,200 people between the ages of 13 and 59 located all around the country were surveyed in July, September, and November.

The margin of error is ±1.5 percent at the 95 percent confidence level.

For the first question, respondents were asked to list up to three of their favorite artists or groups from this year.

The top 10 responses are as follows:

1. BTS (24.4 percent)
2. TWICE (11.0 percent)
3. IU (10.2 percent)
4. Hong Jin Young (8.8 percent)
5. Wanna One (8.2 percent)
6. Red Velvet (7.8 percent)
7. BLACKPINK (7.6 percent)
8. Jang Yoon Jung (7.2 percent)
9. Lee Seung Chul (6.1 percent)
10. Cho Yong Pil (5.5 percent)

These are the top 10 chosen by respondents from each age group:

BLACKPINK ranked 4th for age groups 13~18 and 19~29 with 18.6% and 14.6%, respectively while having 8% of the votes from the 30s repondents placing them at No.5. Overall, the group, placed 7th with 7.6% of the total votes. Below is a more in-depth summary of votes by demographics of age groups and gender.

The respondents were also asked to list up to three of their favorite songs in 2018 (although not necessarily released this year).

The top nine are as follows:

1. BLACKPINK – “DDU-DU DDU-DU” (5.0 percent)
2. BTS – “IDOL” (4.4 percent)
3. BTS – “Fake Love” (4.1 percent)
4. Hong Jin Young – “Good Bye” (3.4 percent)
5. Jin Sung – “Station in Andong” (3.3 percent)
6. BTS – “DNA” / Yoon Jong Shin – “Like It” (3.2 percent)
8. Kim Yeon Ja – “Amor Fati” (3.1 percent)
9. Red Velvet – “Red Flavor” / IU “Through the Night” (2.9 percent)

BLACKPINK’s DDU-DU DDU-DU came in first overall in the survey for most favorite song of 2018. Respondents who are under the age groups 19~29 and 30s both voted the ‘SQUARE UP’ title track as No.1 with 9.9% and 5.3% of the votes, respectively. The song also is ranked 2nd on the 13~18 age group with 12.8% of the votes.

The 1,500 survey participants between the ages of 13 and 29 were asked to list up to three of their favorite idols, as well. For this question the margin of error is ±2.5 percent at the 95 percent confidence level.

2. BLACKPINK’s Jennie (12.2 percent)
3. IU (11.9 percent)
4. Red Velvet’s Irene (10.4 percent)
5. Wanna One’s Kang Daniel (9.1 percent)

7. BTS’s Suga (6.2 percent)
8. BTS’s Jungkook (5.4 percent)
9. BTS’s V (5.2 percent)
10. BLACKPINK’s Jisoo (4.8 percent)
11. BTS’s Jin (4.7 percent)
12. BTS’s RM / TWICE’s Tzuyu (4.2 percent)
14. Sunmi (3.5 percent)
15. Red Velvet’s Seulgi (3.4 percent)
16. MAMAMOO’s Hwasa (3.1 percent)
17. TWICE’s Jeongyeon / EXO’s Chanyeol / TWICE’s Sana (2.6 percent)
20. BIGBANG’s Seungri / TWICE’s Momo (2.5 percent)

Overall, individually, Jennie and Jisoo placed second and tenth on this list. It’s notable that both girls were ranked within top 8 of the male respondents’ by age group (13~18 and 19~29) lists while Jennie grabbed the 3rd spot on the 19~29 female respondents’ list.
