[NEWS] 111121 YG unveils Kim Eun Bi’s official profile picture

After signing Superstar K2’s Kim Eun Bi into their agency back in January, YG Entertainment has finally released an official profile picture of their upcoming star.

On November 21st, YG updated their ‘YGLife’ blog with a new photo of Kim Eun Bi (18). The sweetheart from the popular audition program has transformed into a confident young woman with a loud sense of style.

Netizens immediately pointed out that the transformation seems a bit too dramatic, however, prompting rumors of plastic surgery to rise. In response, representatives of YG stated, “During that time, Kim Eun Bi practiced every day and lost 8 kg compared to her ‘Superstar K2’ days.”

YG also released a statement earlier today about how their new 5~7 member girl group (which Kim Eunbi is a part of) will not receive any plastic surgery treatments, as they want to introduce a girl group that emphasizes natural beauty.

[NEWS] 111121 YG Entertainment forbids plastic surgery for their new 5~7 member girl group

Recently, Korean news sites OSEN and Star News were able to obtain new insight into YG Entertainment’s upcoming girl group debuting next year.

YG Entertainment has revealed that they have added a “No Plastic Surgery” condition into the contract with the 7 member girl group.

They told OSEN, “The new girl group is made up of members who have not had any plastic surgery. The girls have also agreed to the condition of not undergoing plastic surgery in the future in their contract with Yang Hyun Suk CEO. This contract was possible because we were focusing on creating a girl group that emphasizes natural beauty.”

YG Entertainment has done this once before with Big Mama in order to emphasize talent over looks. However, this is the first time that anyone has put this kind of condition in the contract for an idol group. This is also interesting since YG has for the first time considered looks and appearance as part of the selection process for members of the new group.

They added, “Plastic surgery has its positive points, however it’s regrettable to see natural charms disappear through it. Those within the agency all agree with Yang Hyun Suk’s decision.”

YG Entertainment is showing confidence about being able to produce members who are attractive even without plastic surgery. They stated, “While we were looking at the pretty singers from other agencies, we were curious as to what the result would be if those singers did YG music. That is how the idea of this new girl group started. In addition to emphasis on skills, good looks are also included. A group that can’t be found in the existing music market will be produced.”

YG Entertainment also further discussed their decision about the no plastic surgery requirement and revealed more details about the new group to Star News. They stated, “The new girl group that fans will be able to meet next year will have 5~7 members… All the members have not been finalized yet, so the nominees are competing intensely with one another.”

They continued, “The trainees who are nominees for the new girl group are all teens ranging from 15~19 years old. That’s why we put the no plastic surgery condition into the contract.”

They revealed that in addition to not wanting to lose the natural charm of the members, as they stated earlier, they were also worried about health issues that were involved with plastic surgery. “They are still in their teens, so health problems could arise plus the special charm of teens could be lost as well. That’s why we have included the no plastic surgery condition.”

YG Entertainment confidently stated, “YG’s new girl group will be a team that allows you to feel the freshness and purity of teens.”

In related news, ‘Super Star K2’s’ Kim Eun Bi has been revealed as one of the confirmed members of the new girl group.

YG Entertainment’s New Girl Group to Add “Superstar K2’s” Kim Eun Bi

Kim Eun Bi, the top six contestant from Mnet’s “Superstar K2,” will join YG Entertainment’s new girl group, local media Star News reported today. It said Kim Eun Bi has become the newest member of YGE’s upcoming girl group, quoting multiple industry sources.

Despite being a high school student, the baby-faced Kim Eun Bi showcased superior singing skills on “Superstar K2.” After her elimination at the round of top six, she signed a contract with YG Entertainment alongside fellow contestant Kang Seung Yoon.

Unlike Huh Gak, Jang Jae In, or Kim Ji Soo, Kim Eun Bi rarely made any public appearances after “Superstar K2.” But it was reported that she continued to impress YGE officials through the brief trainee period, and finally, it was confirmed today that she would join the agency’s next girl group.

Since last week’s press conference, where YGE revealed plans for a new girl group and boy band, much speculation circulated regarding the new members. Industry officials are predicting the new YGE girl group to be comprised of more than seven members.

YGE has experience of making 2NE1 one of the best girl groups in the industry in just about two years. With the addition of Kim Eun Bi, expectations for YGE’s new girl group are only continuing to grow.

YG Entertainment Talks Future Plans: New Boy Band and Girl Group to Debut Next Year

111108 newyggroups2

YG Entertainment made it official on November 8 that they have a new boy band and girl group waiting for debut next year. At a press conference held to address the label’s public listing on the KOSDAQ (Korean Securities Dealers Automated Quotations) stock market, the CEO of YGE, Yang Min Suk, said the company currently has two idol bands in training that are expected to be the next Big Bang and 2NE1.

The CEO said YGE has 32 trainees right now. The new girl group will only be comprised of members under 20 years old and is scheduled to debut in the first half of next year. Their new boy group, however, will be revealed in the second half of 2012.

Yang Min Suk also said YGE will open at least two more offices in the Greater China region. Much like their recent joint project, “YGEX,” with Japanese music label AVEX, YGE is looking to beef up their overseas business units.

“The Asian market (excluding Japan) is smaller than Korea in terms of music sales, but it’s a lucrative market for concerts and live events. Our strategy is to enhance our artists’ value through concerts and move from there,” Yang Min Suk said.

He also acknowledged the need for stronger crisis management skills following an array of negative incidents involving some of their top artists. As a result, YGE has recently formed a separate risk management team to take care of all negative publicity and damage to their overall brand.

He didn’t specify Big Bang’s comeback date as he even declined to answer if the group would ever return at all. But regardless of Big Bang, he sounded confident in YGE’s business for next year, as he said, “Even our most conservative estimates tell us we’ll make 100 billion won ($100 million USD) next year.”

“We’re also planning to hold at least three Japanese concerts with more than 150,000 people coming. Our newest artist Tablo has just released his new album too. We’ll continue to expand our artist lineup to diversify our revenue source,” he said.

This raises the possibility of seeing Mnet “Superstar K2” contestant Kang Seung Yoon in their new boy band. In September, YGE said Kang Seung Yoon would debut with a group next year, with the possibility of doing some solo activities as well.

YG Entertainment’s two leading idol groups, Big Bang and 2NE1, each debuted in 2006 and 2009, respectively, and have enjoyed massive success as some of the most talented artists in the industry. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we get more information!

[NEWS] 110912 Yang Hyun Suk reveals how YG Entertainment picks their trainees

110911 yanghyunsuk

YG Entertainment’s Yang Hyun Suk recently joined SBS’s ‘Survival Audition K-Pop Star’, a program that seeks to stand out from all other audition shows by finding and cultivating the next star, and putting them on an elite course to success.

A lot of attention is now being focused on the criteria for the program. Yang Hyun Suk recently sat down with OSEN for an interview detailing what he looks for in a trainee.

He first revealed that trainees join YG in two different ways: talented individuals will be approached by the company first, while others are chosen out of the hundreds that apply for the company.

He began, “YG only had a select few trainees, but we’ve been increasing the number since 2011. If you look at it one way, we get outstanding talent for free. Even though people know that it’s extremely hard to get into YG, kids from all over the nation will still come and try out on their own. The reason we’re increasing the number of trainees is because I realized that after 2NE1 debuted, we had no trainees left. We have about 40 now, and most of them were people we contacted first because they were famous for their skills. A few of them will definitely go on to become the next Big Bang or 2NE1, albeit they’ll be different in music and style.”

And what about Kang Seung Yoon, the contestant from ‘Superstar K2’ who joined YG? Yang Hyun Suk revealed, “Whether it will take two years or three, it’s anyone’s game. It all depends on his skills.” When asked when he would be making his debut, Yang Hyun Suk replied quickly that he was adamant about not allowing trainees to stand on stage unless they were thoroughly prepared as singers. It’s not just Kang Seung Yoon who had to endure such a harsh training regimen — senior artists like Se7en, Big Bang, 2NE1, and Gummy also had to go through it as well.

It’s reality that while some trainees shine like stars, others end up in the dust like a flower that never got the chance to bloom.

“My trainees are all children who have talent not made through effort, but through talent they’re born with. To put it simply, only the kids who have it will survive. There are a lot of kids who let their talent rot and fail. Children with natural-born talents can be usually divided into two different types of people. The first are the types that rise to the position of ‘best’ because they continue to still strive to improve their talents. The second are the trainees who don’t practice because they know that they’re good. Of course, YG doesn’t let lazy prodigies just slide. We either let them die out or try to fix it. This is where the great system we’re known to have comes from,” he explained.

Concluding the interview, he said, “People say that I’m stingy with compliments but I think it’s definite that a YG trainee is talented and good. I have to play the bad guy that criticizes what they lack in the middle. Teens, however, always want to be praised in their hearts, and since I’m always only criticizing them, it hurts their feelings… If I always praise them and compliment them when they’re in their teens, they have a tendency to just settle for where they’re at. In the end, they’re going to be using what they learned during their training period for the rest of their lives as singers because there’s no time to practice once you actually debut. There’s a time and place for practicing.”

[NEWS] 110727 YG Entertainment to debut an “SNSD-like” group next year

110727 yang_hyunsuk_yg

YG Entertainment has made an announcement that’s gaining major public interest! They’ve announced that they are currently in the works of putting together a charming and talented girl group; one that will be like SNSD, but with some YG flair.

During his recent interview with StarIn, Yang Hyun Suk stated, “We have plans to debut new artists before the third quarter of next year.” He added that of those new artists, one will be “an attractive and talented girl group like SNSD, but with some YG flavor.”

YG Entertainment is home to major artists like Big Bang and 2NE1, and they’ve established themselves as one of Korea’s major entertainment labels. Before he went on to talk about his new girl group, Yang Hyun Suk revealed his process on how he chose which trainees to debut.

“When it comes to selecting the members, the ones who performed the best looked the most appealing, that’s all! (laughs)”. He continued, “I think these days, there are a lot of young people who are extremely talented, and are also very attractive. …It took five years before Big Bang was able to make their first debut, but because these kids are so talented these days, and since all the studios have state-of-the-art technology, I believe it’ll be possible to produce a new group within two years.”

YG Entertainment currently hosts about 30 trainees, and he plans on debuting a few rookie groups towards mid-year 2012, one of which being the ‘YG SNSD’.

He assures, however, that the new groups will be different from anything YG has ever done, and that their style will not be anything like that of Big Bang’s or 2NE1’s.

He continued, “I like to try out new things that others have yet to, and if you take a look at all the groups that YG has produced (such as Big Mama, Gummy, Se7en, Big Bang, or 2NE1), all of their styles are unique. It’ll be no different for these new artists.”

Yang Hyun Suk was at one point one of the members of the legendary “Seo Taiji & Boys”. When asked if he missed being on stage, he replied, “I actually don’t miss it… I enjoy seeing our groups on stage more and working behind the scenes to make the stage possible for them. This is more me.”

YG smiled contently as he ended, “I love each of our YG groups; they’re like my own children. Everyday I ponder upon how I can “raise” them better and how I can create the next best idol group… it’s fun.”

Stay tuned for more updates on this interesting new girl group from YG!
