[NEWS] 120428 Will YG Entertainment’s new girl group be like Girls’ Generation or 2NE1?

20120427_ygsnsd1

Earlier this year, YG Entertainment caused a big storm in the media when it announced that it was preparing for the debut of a new girl group. Since YG serves as a home to worldwide K-pop stars such as Big Bang, 2NE1, Se7en, Tablo, and more, it came as no surprise that the group would garner massive attention.

The announcement that the group would feature more than 7 members caused a firestorm of comparisons to industry established groups such as Girls’ Generation, as well as T-ara and After School, groups which recently saw the expansion of members to 9. In addition to theses comparisons, much debate is held over the stylistic and artistic direction of the group in relation to the much celebrated YG girl group, 2NE1.

While YG is currently mum on the details of the group, it is certain that the group will feature two previous ‘Superstar K’ contestants, Kim Eun Bi and Euna Kim. Furthermore, the unexpected photo release of mystery girl Jenny Kim of the Netherlands added to the rising anticipation for the group. Industry veterans have made the analysis that this steady flow of unannounced leaks is YG Entertainment’s way of gauging the public response in order to better determine and formulate the characteristics of the group.

When 2NE1 made their debut, the public response was no less than explosive. With an energetic shout of “Nolza!”, the fearsome four swept the charts with a combination of melodic and addictive sounds with powerful performances.

However, expectations are that this new girl group will employ a contrasting style to that of 2NE1’s free flowing performance style. First, the large number of members that will comprise the group means that there is a need to utilize synchronized performances, a necessity to keep the stage from looking chaotic. In addition, each member will have smaller parts in order to accommodate each other, meaning that the style of music will have to be fitting for such a group dynamic.

It is for these reasons that the comparison to K-pop titans Girls Generation continue to gather steam. Questions remain over whether this new group will attempt to emulate Girls’ Generation’s flawless synchronization style or incorporate 2NE1’s free flowing style to create a never-before-seen performance style.

One thing is for sure, and that is that the group is sure to create an increasing amount of discussion and anticipation. Whether the predictions surrounding their style or music prove to be accurate has yet to be answered.

Nevertheless, fans can expect the group to debut this summer in the midst of an increasingly competitive K-pop world!

120427 ygngg

YG Entertainment has been hinting at the debut of new YG girl group in the near future. Although this particular girl group will not be debuting until Summer 2012, they surely are drawing attention from the public already.

Some are expecting this new girl group to have nine members, calling them “YG Girls Generation.” However, YGE has not made any official announcement regarding the specifics of this upcoming idol group. According to a source, there are 10 individuals training to be a member of this upcoming group. As all of these trainees are superbly talented, only one or two individuals will be dropped out before the group finally debuts. Previously, YG himself (Yang Hyun Suk) has mentioned that the upcoming girl group will definitely have more than seven members in several interviews, adding credibility to the nine-membered “YG Girls Generation” theory.

Currently, YGE confirmed that Yuna Kim from “Super Star K3″ and Kim Eun Bi from “Super Star K2″ will be members of the upcoming girl group. With other trainees still unrevealed, many fans and industry officials are assuming that the mysterious girl posted on YGE’s blog, Jenny Kim, will also be a part of this group.

[NEWS] 120417 Identity of YG Entertainment’s mystery girl revealed

YG Entertainment’s mystery girl’s identity has been revealed by the netizen investigators. On April 10th, YG revealed just one picture of the mystery girl, who immediately gained a lot of interest from the netizens.

Netizens have identified the girl in the picture as Jenny Kim(17) from the Netherlands New Zealand, who was born in 1996. YG confirmed this information and couldn’t hide their surprise when they commented, “The name and age are right. She moved abroad when she was very little so we didn’t think her information would be discovered if we shared her picture in Korea.”

YG also shared that Jenny Kim is fluent in Korean, English, and Japanese and was chosen to be a trainee by Yang Hyun Suk himself for her talented dancing and singing. She’s been a trainee for several years now.

However, when asked if Jenny Kim is one of the member for the new girl group, YG answered, “Nothing has been confirmed yet.” As reported previously, when YG put up the blog post about Jenny Kim, it was accompanied by the title, “Who’s That Girl?”. There was no mention of her identity or how and when she would be debuting.

But considering YG’s pattern of taking a long time and producing unexpected promotions for their artists, it seems highly likely that Jenny Kim with her pretty looks, and ability to speak three languages, will be one of the members of the new girl group.

[Update: There seems to be some confusion about whether Jenny Kim is from the Netherlands or Australia, as the Korean news sources have stated Netherlands, while some unconfirmed sources have stated Australia. As confirmed by a predebut video of Jennie from MBC’s Special Documentary, she lived in New Zealand when she was younger.]

120406_euna_eunbi

Recently, YG Entertainment released a practice clip of their two female trainees, Euna Kim and Kim Eunbi. Through OSEN, officials have confirmed that the two have been given the go by CEO Yang Hyun Suk as the new members of their upcoming girl group.

The girls showed the world their new and improved talents through a cover of Sam Sparro’s “Black & Gold” through a video update on the YG blog. Fans that had been following the girls since their audition program (‘Superstar K’) days knew immediately just how much they had improved with their natural flow and solid skills.

Being chosen as a trainee alone is a big accomplishment, so for the girls to earn the ‘OK’ from Yang Hyun Suk himself means they’re already on to well paved road with their futures.

With Kim Eunbi already having been confirmed previously, and with signs pointing for the same with Euna Kim, fans are already anticipating the upcoming girl group.

As reported previously, the new girl group has a specific clause in their contracts that prohibits plastic surgery, and will be made up of natural beauties. YG had formed the group inspired by the question, “Wouldn’t it be fresh if pretty girls did hip hop music?”

Following girl group 2NE1, YG Entertainment is planning on debuting a new girl group where Kim Eunbi and Euna Kim have been confirmed as members. A YG representative spoke with OSEN on April 7th confirming the news. A video clip of the two girls practicing has also been posted on YG Entertainment’s official blog.

On the afternoon of April 4th, YG Entertainment posted a video clip of Kim Eunbi and Euna Kim singing Sam Sparro‘s “Black & Gold.” Viewers got the opportunity to check out the girls’ skills and potential as members of the company’s new girl group. After viewing the clip, netizens noticed that the two girls seem more natural with the camera. They were able to demonstrate their powerful vocals and rapping skills with style. Many commented that the girls looked more relaxed and confident than they had during their previous auditions on television.

In addition, the girls are wearing comfortable clothes and holding their microphones with confidence as they perform. This clip was taken recently at YG Entertainment’s practice room. It is said that the girls are being recorded once a week so that their progress can be evaluated.

Being chosen as one of YG’s trainees is hard enough, but the real challenge begins once aspiring singers actually make it into the company as trainees. The entire music industry is aware of the challenging survival procedure YG trainees need to pass before they can debut as singers. This is especially difficult because President Yang himself directly evaluates the trainees and decides whether they can debut as a group or solo.

Other YG artists such as BIGBANG and 2NE1 also underwent and passed these difficult trainee years and were able to debut only after many years of hard work and practice. They are now among the top idol groups in the Korean music industry and are also spreading their music worldwide.

Kim Eunbi was already previously confirmed for the girl group and Euna Kim has now been added to the list as well. Because not a lot of news has been revealed to the public concerning the new girl group’s progress, the revealed video received a lot of interest from music fans.

Both girls were contestants on “Superstar K.” Kim Eunbi was a contestant in Season 2 while Euna Kim particpated in Season 3. Last year, Kim Eunbi received a lot of interest for her enhanced beauty after losing 8kg. Meanwhile, Euna Kim is known as “Female Jo Kwon” for her funny charms and wit that she had demonstrated on “Superstar K.”

This new girl group is also being called, “YG’s Girls’ Generation.”The girls are known to be natural beauties who have never received plastic surgery treatment of any kind. President Yang stated, “I started this group because I thought it would be interesting to see a group of pretty girls who can also sing hip hop music.”

‘Superstar K3’ contestant Yuna Kim has been revealed to have become a trainee under YG Entertainment.

Hailing from the States, Yuna Kim failed to make it into the ‘Top 10’. The official went on to explain, “Yuna Kim’s Korean is still not fluent yet so she was unfortunately eliminated for forgetting the lyrics in the middle of her audition. Considering that she is now under the training system of YG, we’re sure that she’ll grow to become a better singer.”

This is the third contestant YG Entertainment has brought under their wings from the ‘Superstar K’ series, with their other trainees being Kang Seung Yoon and Kim Eunbi from ‘Superstar K2’.

Yang Hyun Suk stated, “The new girl group called YG’s SNSD is going to appear in the summer time. A lot of people are saying how ‘YG used to not look at appearances. I wonder how good they will be if they are YG standards and also attractive’.”

“This group is not an attempt at a second 2NE1 or Big Mama. It is not a team that matches my personality at all. It is not pretty children dancing pretty dances, but these pretty girls are taking a hip hop approach.”, he continued.

[NEWS] 120117 Big Bang’s New Album Delays Release of YG’s Girl Group

111121 kimeunbi

Earlier this past year, YG Entertainment revealed that they were working on a new girl group. In the past there had been hints that the group would make their debut as early as January.

Ever since, Big Bang’s comeback has been forecast for February, the company’s focus has shifted to their preparations. This shift in scheduling has in turn put off the girl group’s debut to a later date.

Big Bang’s album had been put on hold, due to unfortunate events which occurred during the second half of 2011. In that time the members have been hard at work and what they have in store for fans is of extraordinary interest. Originally, the group was scheduled to release their album in March just in time for their 2012 Big Show concert. The preparations for the album have gone exceedingly well and because of this YG decided to move their comeback up. It will be a year since the group released their 4th mini album last February.

As for the new girl group, they are expected to make their official debut sometime after March. The label’s first girl group, 2NE1 has already become successful and influential. They differentiated themselves with their style and their music as they were unlike any other girl group before them.

The upcoming girl group is expected to be another ground breaking group. The girl group will be more than just ‘pretty’. They will be unlike anything the label has done previously, as YG hopes to explore new music, fashion styles as well as an entirely new image. The company also will implement new marketing techniques into the group’s promotion. Although the members themselves, along with the number of members that will make up the group, have not yet been identified, the girls are naturally beautiful as none of them have had cosmetic surgery done. For now, MNET “Superstar K2” alum, Kim Eun Bi is the only one who has been revealed as being part of YG’s future girl group.

2NE1 also expressed their expectations for this new group. In a conversation with OSEN, leader CL revealed, “They will not at all be like us, they are of different colors. The girl group looks ready, I know, too, the new group is very excited. You definitely will want to look forward to seeing them.”

A representative for YG had this to say regarding the delay, “The more thorough preparation will serve us well in the long run.” he said.
