A production presentation for the show was held at the Conrad Hotel Grand Ballroom in Seoul on August 20, where Yang Hyun Suk revealed what caused him to shift gears.

“To be honest, I wanted to make a group like SNSD, because that’s not my area of expertise,” said Yang Hyun Suk. “But I’ve always wondered what a pretty girl group doing hip hop would look like.”

As fans know, such a girl group was on track to make its debut, however, Yang Hyun Suk halted the process, revealing “Ultimately, they were short of the talent I was looking for. I wasn’t 100 percent satisfied and couldn’t debut them.”

Still, Yang Hyun Suk added that he hasn’t completely folded plans to debut a girl group and that plans for its debut are underway.

Meanwhile, WIN: Who is Next, which will pit two teams of male idol trainees against each other in survival battles, is set to premiere on August 23 on Mnet and tvN.

[NEWS] 120428 Will YG Entertainment’s new girl group be like Girls’ Generation or 2NE1?

Earlier this year, YG Entertainment caused a big storm in the media when it announced that it was preparing for the debut of a new girl group. Since YG serves as a home to worldwide K-pop stars such as Big Bang, 2NE1, Se7en, Tablo, and more, it came as no surprise that the group would garner massive attention.

The announcement that the group would feature more than 7 members caused a firestorm of comparisons to industry established groups such as Girls’ Generation, as well as T-ara and After School, groups which recently saw the expansion of members to 9. In addition to theses comparisons, much debate is held over the stylistic and artistic direction of the group in relation to the much celebrated YG girl group, 2NE1.

While YG is currently mum on the details of the group, it is certain that the group will feature two previous ‘Superstar K’ contestants, Kim Eun Bi and Euna Kim. Furthermore, the unexpected photo release of mystery girl Jenny Kim of the Netherlands added to the rising anticipation for the group. Industry veterans have made the analysis that this steady flow of unannounced leaks is YG Entertainment’s way of gauging the public response in order to better determine and formulate the characteristics of the group.

When 2NE1 made their debut, the public response was no less than explosive. With an energetic shout of “Nolza!”, the fearsome four swept the charts with a combination of melodic and addictive sounds with powerful performances.

However, expectations are that this new girl group will employ a contrasting style to that of 2NE1’s free flowing performance style. First, the large number of members that will comprise the group means that there is a need to utilize synchronized performances, a necessity to keep the stage from looking chaotic. In addition, each member will have smaller parts in order to accommodate each other, meaning that the style of music will have to be fitting for such a group dynamic.

It is for these reasons that the comparison to K-pop titans Girls Generation continue to gather steam. Questions remain over whether this new group will attempt to emulate Girls’ Generation’s flawless synchronization style or incorporate 2NE1’s free flowing style to create a never-before-seen performance style.

One thing is for sure, and that is that the group is sure to create an increasing amount of discussion and anticipation. Whether the predictions surrounding their style or music prove to be accurate has yet to be answered.

Nevertheless, fans can expect the group to debut this summer in the midst of an increasingly competitive K-pop world!

YG Entertainment has made an announcement that’s gaining major public interest! They’ve announced that they are currently in the works of putting together a charming and talented girl group; one that will be like SNSD, but with some YG flair.

During his recent interview with StarIn, Yang Hyun Suk stated, “We have plans to debut new artists before the third quarter of next year.” He added that of those new artists, one will be “an attractive and talented girl group like SNSD, but with some YG flavor.”

YG Entertainment is home to major artists like Big Bang and 2NE1, and they’ve established themselves as one of Korea’s major entertainment labels. Before he went on to talk about his new girl group, Yang Hyun Suk revealed his process on how he chose which trainees to debut.

“When it comes to selecting the members, the ones who performed the best looked the most appealing, that’s all! (laughs)”. He continued, “I think these days, there are a lot of young people who are extremely talented, and are also very attractive. …It took five years before Big Bang was able to make their first debut, but because these kids are so talented these days, and since all the studios have state-of-the-art technology, I believe it’ll be possible to produce a new group within two years.”

YG Entertainment currently hosts about 30 trainees, and he plans on debuting a few rookie groups towards mid-year 2012, one of which being the ‘YG SNSD’.

He assures, however, that the new groups will be different from anything YG has ever done, and that their style will not be anything like that of Big Bang’s or 2NE1’s.

He continued, “I like to try out new things that others have yet to, and if you take a look at all the groups that YG has produced (such as Big Mama, Gummy, Se7en, Big Bang, or 2NE1), all of their styles are unique. It’ll be no different for these new artists.”

Yang Hyun Suk was at one point one of the members of the legendary “Seo Taiji & Boys”. When asked if he missed being on stage, he replied, “I actually don’t miss it… I enjoy seeing our groups on stage more and working behind the scenes to make the stage possible for them. This is more me.”

YG smiled contently as he ended, “I love each of our YG groups; they’re like my own children. Everyday I ponder upon how I can “raise” them better and how I can create the next best idol group… it’s fun.”

Stay tuned for more updates on this interesting new girl group from YG!
